AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING DESIGN

  1. RESIDENTIAL HVAC DESIGN:
  2. Air conditioning and Heating are not only about getting the desired indoor temperatures but also about:
    • Maintaining these indoor air temperatures (Any variations of temperature is felt by the human body so keeping the temperature stable or as close to the desired value as possible at all times makes the difference between COMFORT or not).
    • Regulating the humidity level,
    • Ensuring the lowest possible noise interference and
    • Improving the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).

Each of the previously mentioned item can be optimized to each individual needs to match your taste and wallet. Fix My AC, Inc. will offer you as simple or as complex a design as you wish.

Fix My AC's aim is to create the maximum comfort for your dollars.

  1. DESIGN ELEMENTS:
  2. When designing a HVAC system, Fix My AC, Inc. will take many elements in consideration. Please find below a partial list of these.
    • The customer's needs
    • The customer's budget
    • The building (home) properties (windows, insulation, flooring, ceiling, attic, etc.)
    • The building (home) geographical orientation (North, South walls)
    • The use and occupancy of the building/Home (heat producing machinery, physically active or sitting people, etc.)
    • The climate of the geographical area where the building/home is located
    • Zoning or not (office versus manufacturing area; home office in one room versus the use of the full house, etc.)
    • Heat Load calculations
    • The equipment fitting the above needs/requirements best.
    • The location of the equipment
    • and more

  1. VENTILATION DESIGN:
  2. The best Air Conditioning and Heating system without proper distribution of the air falls short.

I am sure that every one has experienced a room that is either too hot or too cold.
Fix My AC, Inc. can help you solve this problem and our designs are such that they eliminate this risk right at the source.
    • Duct sizes:
Classically, one calculates the amount of air changes required in each part of the home or building and determines consequently the sizes of the ducts for each room or space.
In a perfect world, the correct sizing should ensure that the correct amount of air always goes where it is required. However there is no flexibility built-into the system to accomodate changes in needs.

    • Dampers:
Most commercial buildings will benefit from at least manual dampers. Fix My AC, Inc. also installs manual dampers in home ventilation systems.
      • One reason is because the air flows where it is easiest and does not always match the expectations.
      • The other reason is that different users may have different needs. One may want the room to be cold while the other wishes this room to be only cool. So when room changes occupants or function, it is possible to adjust the air flow to match the new needs without re-ducting the whole system.

    • Flexible ducts versus solid metal ducts.
In commercial buildings, solid metal ducts are the norm, whether spiral or rectangular and whether ductmate or simple S-drives.

In residential buildings, Fix My AC, Inc. will mostly use flexible ducts. However in some special cases, it is highly advisable to use metal ducts and Fix My AC, Inc. will install these in homes too.

Such cases may include homes regularly infested by rodents or ducts located in crawling spaces underneath the home where flooding recurrently occurs.

    • Insulation:
Fix My AC, Inc. will not use any insulation below R6. In some areas (where it is required by Title 24) or for special needs, Fix My AC, Inc. will recommend installing R8 insulation.

    • Fresh air
A constant supply of fresh air in commercial building is not only standard but actually required by regulation. Upon request, Fix My AC, Inc. will design and install fresh air option in homes too. In Southern California this feature allows to often cool the house at night, in summer, without running the air conditioning, hence saving energy and money.
