The number of SEER/EER indicates the efficiency of Air Conditioning systems (straight cooling or heat pump), i.e. how much energy it requires to cool down the designated area. By analogy, the SEER/EER for AC is the equivalent of how many miles per gallon a car uses.
EER/SEER
SEER is a measurement of the efficiency of a cooling system over a season and so reflects quite accurately the overall system efficiency on a seasonal basis. In contrast EER reflects the system’s energy efficiency at peak day operations. Both ratings are important when choosing products.
SEER
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio
SEER is measured at 82 degrees outdoor air and 80 degrees indoor air when the unit is running on and off over long period of time.
ARI
The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute is the body which regulates and standardizes the energy efficiency ratings.
